Stunlocking?

Honestly, from 1-70 on both my first two characters, i thought this involved surprising a warlock :D Apparently, it is actually a form of rogue annoyance with which I am quite familiar, where I wait for the first stun to go away so I can reply with a war stomp or blink, only to find that it never, EVER ends.

Well i recently started playing a rogue because I wanted something fresh, he is 16 at the moment but i am planning on having him in the 20s soon, and then trying out the fabled (and irritating) rogue pvp power. So i was wondering if anyone had any general rogue pvp tips-and more importantly, if anyone could tell me how exactly to pull off a successful stunlock. I know it involves a variety of stun skills, but is there a particular rotation? Do I have to be a certain level to get the key skill that makes stunlocking for long periods of time possible? And lastly, at the moment I am going assassination spec becuase it appears to be working quite well solo and I never liked combat, but if neccesary, do I have to respec to sub to become a decent pvp rogue?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give :)|||I got no rogue, and doesn't know much about them, but I think it was Cheap Shot and Kidney Shot that is necassary for a long stunlock. Might be wrong though.|||Well, I'd say it's pretty well known that you should be at LEAST level 60 before you even attempt to stunlock... It's VERY hard to get the perfect stunlock, and it's VERY hard to keep good DPS/burst/etc. while keeping that stunlock, along with the fact that if someone doesn't get stunned by something (Resist etc.) then you have to be able to move on to the next move easily.|||Involves, in no particular order other than what my memory came up with,

cheapshot

kidneyshot

gouge

blind

sap

Assassination up to Vigor helps (+20 energy with Glyph), Subtlety up to Dirty Deeds helps for cheaper CS.|||Quote:

first, you need to lvl to the 39 bracket for stunlocking; kidney shot ability is the meat and potatoes of stunlocking and is available at 30. my rule of thumb has always been to stunlock anything with mana pool for both offensive and defensive purposes. at 39, it isnt very likely that your Ap will be buffed enough to "one-shot" a clothier with ambush. A non-critting ambush with minimal dmg on, lets say a mage, will and usualy does result in failure. Mainly because rogues in this bracket are easily, easily kited by just about anything. A non-critting ambush usualy initiates 2 minutes of hell while this said mage is kiteing you all over the board. This is where stunlocking is viable. But stunlocking isnt suitable for every class encounter that has a mana pool. Trial and error is the key.

Second, once you have reached the 39 bracket, spec full sub. there is no subsitution for that. Preperation gives you an xtra vanish, for when your ill-fated ambush fails to one-shot your target and you need to vanish quickly, again, before you get dotted feared and smeared. Intiative offers a 100% chance to add an xtra combo point to your target with the use of garrote ambush and cheapshot. This means, once you have opened up on your target with cheapshot ( which stuns for a couple seconds and adds 2 combo points) you now have 3 combo points which equates to 3 seconds of stun, if you chose to kidney shot after you bust with coldshot. I try to slip in an xtra sinister strike or gouge to get an xtra combo point before i kidney shot the said target, for a minimum of 4 seconds of stun, which is plenty of time to spam sinsiter strike a few more times before the target comes to. And with preperation, u can vanish and ambush, or repeat the stun locking process all over again. Stunlocking is very fun and is the sole reason i twinked a rogue. NO matter what your prefered combat rotation is, i cant impress upon you enough the importance of full Sub spec.

Couple other things i want to mention..

this is some what of a passive response to all the other responses.

First, it isnt difficult to maintain high dps while stunlocking.... because rogues arent high dpsers in the PvP realm in the first place ( with exception to a HaT rogue ) .. Uber twinked rogues will not hold a flame to locks and huntards in ANY bracket. They are the dps kings. So beiing the highest on the dmg chart shouldnt matter anyway, cause it isnt a realisitic goal to begin with. With that being said, the objective of pvp rogues is sheer deadliness. Your primary purpose is to be able to solo any class.. To efficeintly kill any opponent and slip off into the shadows, waiting for the next victim.

Second, you can be extremly effective at stunlocking at 30. You dont have to wait for 60.
